Community Based Programs
Collaboration with a variety of community partners is vital in order to create positive and systematic changes. A variety of collaborative ventures are encouraged at the MUI that facilitate the development of networking, participatory-action research, and community leadership. Our partnerships include: local congregations and other religious organizations, faith-based organizations, community groups, educational institutions, and public and private agencies. Our Metro-Urban Institute institutional partners include: Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh, Primary Health Care Services, University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health, Center for Minority Health, School of Medicine, Graduate School of Social Work, and the University Center for Social and Urban Research. Our Community-Based activities include CARE(Cardiovascular and Religious Education) HEARTSCORE and FAMILYSCORE cardiovascular and lifestyle study conducted jointly with the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Medicine. Educational Collaborative for Community MinistryThe MUI supports and promotes the educational preparation of community leaders with attention to the economic, family life, public education, public health, racial/ethnic relations, and restorative justice aspects of the metro-urban environment. The Educational Collaborative for Community Ministry is a network of churches, community agencies, or educational institutions in covenant with the Seminary’s Metro-Urban Institute to provide all or some of the following:
